Super Falcons win 2018 AWCON title, defeat South Africa 4-3 on penalties

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been crowned champions of Africa after defeating South Africa’s Bayana Bayana 4-3 on penalties in Saturday’s final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

Despite creating goal scoring chances, both teams failed to break the deadlock after regulation time and extra time to put the game on penalties.

Super Falcons goalkeeper, Tochukwu Oluehi was the hero of the night as she stopped Bayana Bayana’s fifth spot kick to help the team win their 11th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations title.

Nigeria and South Africa will represent Africa in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup slated for France.

South Africa: Kaylin Swart, Lebohang Ramalepe, Janine Van Wyk, Bambanani Mbane, Nothando Vilakazi, Mamello Mkhabane, Leandra Smeda, Busisiwe Ndimeni, Linda Motlhalo, Chrestinah Kgatlana, Jermaine Seoposenwe
