Super Eagles duo of Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi had a brilliant show for their clubs with Arsenal ending a five-match losing streak at Stamford Bridge as they drew goalless with 10-man Chelsea.
A goalless first half had a couple of big chances, Pedro was put through for the hosts but was denied by Petr Cech, while Aaron Ramsey hit a post for Arsenal, with Alexandre Lacazette skying the rebound.
Moses was on for the entire duration of the game, while Iwobi got substituted making way for Mohamed Elneny in the 80th minute. There were fewer opportunities after the break despite the introductions of Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard. Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi thought he had scored on 75 minutes, but was offside when heading in Granit Xhaka’s free-kick.
Luiz, up, until the 87th minute was Chelsea’s star man, but under pressure from Alexis Sanchez, lost the ball and lunged out onto the shin of Sead Kolasniac.
Referee Michael Oliver did not take time to think about it, and decided straight away it was a dangerous tackle and thus brandished the Brazil defender with a straight red card.
Meanwhile, Chelsea stay third, three points off the top, while Arsenal are 12th on the table.
