Copa del Rey Round of 16: Barça vs Athletic Club

After deatroying Hércules 8-1 on aggregate on Wednesday night to qualify for the Copa del Rey Round of 16, Barcelona now know their opponent for the Last 16 of the Spanish Cup after the draw was made on Friday afternoon and it is a familiar foe in Athletic Bilbao.

The Catalán giants face the tournament’s second most successful side once again after beating them in the final 3-1 two years ago to win their 26th Copa title. The game will be a tricky tie although Barça still remain favourites. As stated in the rules for the draw, the inferior team play at home in the first leg so the first tie will be held at San Mamés on January 5 while the return leg holds at the Camp Nou on January 11th.

Aside from this draw, there are other great fixtures to look up to in the cup as Real Madrid will go head to head with Jorge Sampaoli’s in form Sevilla side with an aim to continue their unbeaten streak. Atlético Madrid are the happiest among the big three as they got Las Palmas.

Celta Vigo were drawn against Valencia in a game that promises a lot of actions while Real Sociedad take on Villarreal.
