International suffered a shock home defeat in their first game of the
group phase as they slumped to lone goal loss to Zamalek on Sunday in
Port Harcourt.
Bassem Morsy scored the only goal of the encounter as he headed
Zamalek in front in the seventh minute, lobbing his effort over
goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai.
Enyimba who have been enduring a poor patch on the domestic scene
were only a shadow of themselves at their adopted home ground in Port
Harcourt on Sunday as they failed to get the better of the Egyptian
giants; who surprisingly were missing some of their key players
including their inspirational captain Mahmoud Shikabala and play-maker
Ayman Hefny.
After the opening day loss, Enyimba will now head to face South
Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns on June 29 in continuation of the
competition.
Interestingly, the South Africans are top in Group B after they also
recorded a stunning 2-0 win over ES Setif in their Match Day 1 contest
