A former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal, has advised Chelsea midfielder Obi Mikel to take advantage of Jose Mourinho’s exit from the English club to reinvent his career.
In the past few seasons, Mikel has spent majority of Chelsea’s games on the bench, leading to many Nigerian football enthusiasts urging the Eagles midfielder to leave the club.
Lawal told punchng.com on Friday that the changes that would occur in Chelsea with Mourinho’s exit, may give Mikel an opportunity to excel.
He said, “I think Mourinho’s exit is a chance for Mikel to reinvent his football career. It might be a chance for him to excel at Chelsea. When the new coach comes, a lot of things will change in the club. I believe Mikel’s future is bright.”
Lawal said Mikel should also be open to leaving Chelsea for another club, where he would have more playing time and excel but said he would have to wait and see the plans of the manager, who would replace Mourinho.
“Mikel has to wait for the new manager to come in. Every manager has his own philosophy. So Mikel has to wait and see the possibility of becoming more relevant in the team under the new manager,” he said.
