The young Barcelona B midfielder has said that he aims to break into Luis Enrique’s first team and that he hopes to be a Blaugrana forever
Barcelona B midfielder Sergi Samper has said that he hopes he is able to break into Barcelona’s first team this season.
Speaking in an interview in Nike Camp Andorra, the youngster said he knows the task of being a first team player is complex but he is ready to give his all.
“I know that it (breaking into Luis Enrique’s team) will be difficult, but I will try to do my best in pre-season,” he commented.
“I’m excited and really motivated to prove that I am ready, that I am prepared. I have the best players in my position, but I am prepared [for the midfield competition],” he added.
Samper, who will join the first team on July 13 to begin working with Luis Enrique for the pre-season tour, was absolutely sure of his future, waving off plans of leaving the club.
“Barça are the club of my life and if I can, I would like to stay here forever,” he said.
The 20-year-old reiterated that his idol has always been and will always be the legendary Xavi Hernandez.
“Xavi has always been my reference and always will be. I always watch him.”
Samper also spoke positively about the arrival of Arda Turan, who was presented as a Barça player on Friday.
“He (Arda Turan) is a great football player, he will bring a lot to the team, even more considering the departure of Xavi,” Samper said.
Samper is highly tipped by fans for promotion to the first team and since Barcelona B have been relegated, the youngster might just be considered. He is one of the brightest talents in Barca’s B-team.
