It was a tale of mixed fortunes for Nigerian players that were in action for their European clubs in the second qualifying round of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Scottish champions Glasgow Celtic knocked out Stjarnan out of the competition, beating the second – leg hosts 4 – 1 at Samsung völlurinn (Garðabær) to qualify 6 – 1 on aggregate.
Super Eagles right back Efe Ambrose was subbed on in the 52nd minute with The Hoops leading 2 – 1 on the night.
Biton, Mulgrew, Griffiths and Johansen were on target for Celtic while Finsen struck in the 7th minute for the home team.
At the Arena Naţională , Super Eagles left – back Kingsley Madu played the full 90 minutes as AS Trencin crashed out of the Champions League despite beating Steaua Bucharest 3 – 2 . They lost the first leg 2 – 0 at home.
Playmaker Rabiu Ibrahim was subbed on in the 73rd minute; his second appearance in the competition.
New signings Aliko Bala and John Chia did not make AS Trencin’s 18 – man squad.
