The Barcelona presidential candidate seems to have a bigger priority than him winning the election
The Barcelona presidential election comes up in a week’s time and candidates are tightening their seat belts.
However, it seems a particular candidate, Joan Laporta is fighting for two purposes.
Just like the other three candidates, Laporta wants to become the president of the greatest football club in the world but that is that really his MAIN goal.
In a presidential debate by three of the four candidates, Joan Laporta, Agusti Benedito and Toni Freixa [with Bartomeu absent], Laporta surprisingly made a proposal to the other two candidates to team up with him and kick Bartomeu – who is favourite – out.
The question here is – What is Laporta’s main aim? To make sure Bartomeu is not elected president? or to win the election?
Laporta knows that Bartomeu is favourite to win the election. Moreover, he sees Bartomeu as a man not worthy to be Barca’s president, a man who is not transparent, a man who will destroy the pride and culture of Barcelona.
Laporta isn’t blabbing whenever he attacks Bartomeu, he is expressing what he feels and knows about him.
Laporta wants the best for the club and he believes that cannot be achieved with Bartomeu as president. He is a man who takes honour over money, he wants the club’s academy (La Masia) to be back as the best star-building football structure in the world, he is not happy seeing Barca B die, he wants UNICEF over Qatar, he wants to restore the ‘Mes Que Un Club’ pride – all these are not in Bartomeu’s plans for Barcelona and Laporta feels these things must be in place, therefore he’d be satisfied if he loses and Bartomeu also loses.
In a survey carried out by Laporta, Bartomeu won the presidential poll by 3%, meaning the semi-incubent president is favourite but Laporta has a chance. Seeing this was the reason Laporta wanted a union with Benedito and Freixa.
Noticing from the past few weeks, Laporta is trying his utmost best to bring the Barcelona socis and fans to limelight on who Bartomeu really is and he is ready to turn things around.
Laporta has the support of Barcelona’s strong man Johan Cruyff as well as ex-Barca star Eric Abidal.
The former president is doing everything possible to overthrow Bartomeu. Rumours are surfacing that the 53-year-old has already struck a pre-deal with Juventus’ Paul Pogba and one other player.
He also came out to say Bartomeu contemplated on selling Messi last season but the Argentine will be more confortable with him as president and that Pep Guardiola would be welcome at the club anytime.
If everybody that has been a Barcelona fan for more than 10 years could vote, then Joan Laporta will obviously win but Barto is favourite when it comes to people that can will vote on July 18.
Had Benedito and Freixa accepted Bartomeu’s proposal (they both rejected), the competition would have been more interesting but the duo had previously stated they won’t form a pact with any other candidate.
The election holds on Saturday, July 18.
