The former Barca president officially announced on youtube that he will stand to become Barcelona’s next president in the upcoming election

Joan Laporta

Former Barcelona President Joan Laporta has announced via his Youtube account that he will stand in this summer’s elections to become Barcelona president.

Laporta made is intentions known by Cules and other football fans all over the world in a brief speech that reads:
“Hello everyone. As you know, I will stand in the Barça elections. I am doing so in order to return the club to everyone. I feel more prepared than ever to preside over the club. I have more experience, I have my defects, as the majority of you know, but I maintain my principles,”

He went on to express what he feels about the clubs values and tradition saying:
“For me, Barça’s ‘mes que un club’ (Mes Que Un Club means ‘More Than A Club) is a statement of principles; it’s a model based on Cruyff, La Masia, Catalonia, Unicef, a multi-sporting club and a professional organisation that makes this model work and during the campaign I will defend this model of the club.”

Laporta continued: “For many years I have received the support of many Barcelonistas (Barcelonistas refers to the Barcelona fans), I appreciate that with all my heart and it’s one of the reasons I will run again. Now has arrived the hour of truth and I need, more than ever, your support.

“During this campaign we have to do everything we can so that Barça can return to being a club for everyone. Many thanks. Visca Barça and Visca Catalonia!”

Laporta was formally elected President in 2003 and will go head-to-head with Bartomeu, Benedito and others in July for the title, not just a title though.
