Super Eagles: Tochukwu Nnadi gets return date at Marseille after missing Nigeria’s AFCON Q

Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi could return to action for Marseille this weekend after spending the past month on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Nnadi has endured a difficult start to the season. The 23-year-old midfielder started the campaign as more of a squad player, featuring in two games from the bench.

Then, just before the international break, he suffered a knee injury. That kept him out of the Super Eagles squad for the just-concluded international break.

At first, it looked like a serious problem. However, fresh reports now confirm that the former Zulte Waregem man is fully fit and no longer feels any discomfort in his knee.

This puts Nnadi back in contention for a place in Marseille's squad for the game against Troyes at the Stade de l'Aube.

Why Tochukwu Nnadi Could Start For Marseille This Weekend

This weekend, Marseille travel to Troyes for a Ligue 1 fixture. Going into the game, they will be without midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who sustained an injury while in action for Denmark during the international break.

As a result, coach Bruno Génésio might rejig his starting line-up. Nnadi could therefore earn a spot in the starting eleven this weekend and get a chance to prove that he deserves to be a regular starter.

The Phocaeans are in terrible form at the moment, having lost their last five games. Troyes have not been much better, however, as they have lost three of their last five matches.

The positive for Nnadi and his side is that they have dominated the fixture recently. They have won their last five meetings against Troyes, meaning they enter this game as slight favourites.

Why Nnadi's Return Is Good For The Super Eagles

Nnadi's return is good news for coach Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles, as Nnadi appears to be a player Chelle rates highly.

Since making his debut at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, he has been a regular for Nigeria, except when sidelined by injury or lacking match sharpness at club level.

Had he been fit, he would likely have made Nigeria's squad for the just-concluded international break.

With his fitness now fully confirmed, the midfielder will be looking to earn regular minutes at Marseille and help them turn their form around. Should he secure consistent playing time, he will almost certainly return to the Super Eagles set-up for the November international window.
