The Super Eagles sit second in AFCON 2027 qualifying Group L on three points, and the group's only available ticket runs through two November games against co-hosts Tanzania.
Guinea-Bissau lead the group on six points from two games, with Nigeria on three, according to the table at Sport News Africa. Tanzania and Madagascar have one point each, and Nigeria's goal difference of minus two compares with Guinea-Bissau's plus five.
The group has just one ticket because Tanzania, as co-host, have already secured their place in the finals, as Legit.ng explained when it described the race as a three-way contest. Nigeria were beaten 3-0 by Guinea-Bissau on matchday two.
Two games against a side already through
Nigeria play Tanzania home and away in November, and Guinea-Bissau have a double-header against Madagascar. Soccernet covered the squad's build-up in 2 NPFL stars lead charge as Nigeria's camp opens, and the national-team picture also features in another Super Eagles squad story.
Analysis: the sums that decide the group
Tanzania cannot be eliminated, which means they have nothing to lose on points, while Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau both need results. Guinea-Bissau's three-point lead means Nigeria are chasing, so dropping points against Tanzania would hand the initiative to the leaders.
The goal-difference gap of seven also matters if the two sides finish level. For Nigeria the route is the simplest and the most demanding: take maximum points against Tanzania and hope Guinea-Bissau's meetings with Madagascar bring slips.
The next Super Eagles squad announcement will show who Eric Chelle trusts for the two games.
