Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has praised his Konyaspor teammates after scoring his first career brace in a 2-0 Süper Lig win over Gençlerbirliği, while saying he is also proud of his own display.
Awaziem scored both goals, one in each half, according to Complete Sports. The double lifts his tally to two goals in seven Süper Lig appearances for Konyaspor this season.
What Awaziem said
The defender spoke to Pusulahaber, in comments reported by Complete Sports.
“First of all, I congratulate my team for their performance. Everyone gave their all to win the three points.”
He then turned to his own contribution.
“I am very happy with the performance of my teammates. I scored two goals, but I scored those two goals thanks to my teammates. I am also proud of my own performance.”
Analysis: A first brace and what it adds
For a defender, two goals in one game is a rare return, and both of his league goals this season came in this match. The brace turns a quiet scoring record into a headline, and it puts a Super Eagles defender in the story of a Konyaspor win.
That is useful for Eric Chelle as the Tanzania double-header in November approaches, because a defender in form is a point in favour at selection time. Our weekend roundup of Nigerians abroad has the other scorers, and our Group L breakdown shows why every selection counts.
Awaziem's next chance to add to the tally comes in Konyaspor's next Süper Lig game.
