Super Eagles news: Akor Adams explains Nigeria’s plan for Guinea-Bissau clash

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has revealed what Nigeria must do when they face Guinea-Bissau in their crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria will continue their qualifying campaign against the Djurtus at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time.

The Super Eagles will be looking to make it two wins from two after opening their campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar.

However, they face a tougher test against Guinea-Bissau, who also started their campaign with a win after defeating co-hosts Tanzania 2-0.

With only one qualifying spot available from Group L, there is little room for mistakes or complacency, and Eric Chelle’s side will be hoping to avoid another slow start.

Adams endured a difficult outing against Madagascar but remains confident in the quality of the Super Eagles squad ahead of Tuesday’s game. The Venezia striker believes Nigeria have what it takes to get another positive result and is targeting maximum points in Bissau.

“We want to win all our games, and the Guinea-Bissau game is no different. We’re going there full of confidence, hoping to get the three points”, he told Footy-Africa.

“Like I said before, I trust this team, and together we’re going to fight to bring glory to Nigeria and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.”

The Super Eagles had to come from behind against Madagascar after conceding first in their opening qualifier. George Ilenikhena scored the equaliser in first-half stoppage time before fellow debutant Moses Usor completed the comeback with a superb individual effort.

Usor’s goal also broke Adams’ record for the fastest goal by a substitute on his competitive debut for the Super Eagles.

Despite the difficult start, Adams said he never doubted Nigeria’s ability to turn the game around and believes the team showed the mentality needed to fight for results.

“It was a very tough game against Madagascar, and we had to dig deep to get the win. It’s always important that we start on a good note”, he added.

“I have supreme confidence in this squad. When we conceded, we knew we had to respond and fight back. I had no fears at all about the outcome of the game.

“As it happened, we were able to level the game before half-time and got the winning goal to make our fans happy.

“I don’t think any game in this qualifying series will be easy — even the Tanzanians, who have already qualified. Every game will be difficult.”

A win against Guinea-Bissau would move the Super Eagles to six points and put them in a strong position in the group ahead of the doubleheader against Tanzania in November.
