Davido: Which NPFL club does Afrobeats star own?

Afrobeats superstar Davido is not only expanding his influence in music and entertainment but has also ventured into Nigerian football, with his manager, Asa Asika, revealing the club the singer co-owns, Soccernet.ng reports.

Asika disclosed that he and Davido jointly own Inter Lagos, one of the clubs competing in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season.

The revelation comes after Inter Lagos secured promotion to Nigeria’s top flight following an impressive campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Inter Lagos are now competing in the 2026/27 NPFL season, making the ‘Fall' crooner one of the high-profile figures with an ownership stake in a Nigerian top-flight football club.

Davido co-owns Inter Lagos with Asa Asika

Speaking about Davido’s growing business interests, Asika confirmed that the singer owns a stake in Inter Lagos.

“We (Davido and I) own a football team in Nigeria together. We just got promoted to the Premier League. It is called Inter Lagos,” Asika said on the Manager's Playbook podcast.

He also explained that Davido has a role within the wider sports arm of their business.

“He runs the sports department on the plug,” the 36-year-old added.

The comments shed more light on Davido’s involvement in Nigerian football after Inter Lagos’ rise from the second tier to the NPFL.

The club secured promotion from the NNL during the 2025/26 season after finishing top of Conference A. Inter Lagos confirmed their promotion with a 1-1 draw against Smart City in April, a result that gave them 29 points from 15 matches and guaranteed their place in the NPFL.

The NNL confirmed Inter Lagos among the four clubs promoted to the top flight alongside Doma United, Sporting Lagos and Ranchers Bees.

Inter Lagos’ rapid rise

Inter Lagos are a relatively young club, having been established in 2023, but their rise through the Nigerian football pyramid has been swift.

The club began competing in the NNL during the 2023/24 season before making significant progress in the following campaign.

Their promotion to the NPFL was confirmed in April 2026, before the club went on to finish as runners-up in the NNL Super Four.

The achievement earned Inter Lagos a place among Nigeria’s 20 top-flight clubs for the 2026/27 season.

What Davido’s Inter Lagos investment means

Asika suggested that the football project is part of a broader long-term business strategy rather than simply a celebrity investment.

“It’s developing; it’s a lot of work now, like the same thing with music. We are doing this so that in another 10 years, we are creating the business,” he said.

The manager also pointed to the growing interest of wealthy private investors in Nigerian football and indicated that he and the five-time Grammy nominee want to build in the sector over the long term.

That makes Inter Lagos more than just a club connected to one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars. For Davido, whose business interests extend beyond music, the club provides another avenue through which his brand can participate in Nigeria’s growing sports and entertainment ecosystem.

Inter Lagos are currently competing in their maiden NPFL campaign, with the club recording their first top-flight victory away to Enyimba on September 20 before drawing 1-1 with Kano Pillars three days later, and then losing to Plateau United two days ago.

The club’s promotion turned Inter Lagos into one of the most talked-about new entrants in Nigerian football, while Asika’s latest revelation has now brought Davido’s involvement into the spotlight.
