Brighton agree deal for Femi Azeez: Full breakdown of N27bn transfer

Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed a deal to sign Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez from EFL Championship side Millwall, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Seagulls stepped up their efforts to sign the Nigerian star ahead of transfer deadline day as they looked to prise him away from the Championship club and strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

The 25-year-old winger had previously expressed his ambition to play in the English top flight and Hull City and Aston Villa had been leading the race to sign him earlier in the summer before Brighton stepped up their interest with a late bid for him.

Azeez enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign and came close to helping Millwall return to the Premier League. He scored 11 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions as Millwall reached the Championship playoff semi-finals before their journey was ended by Hull City.

However, his individual performances earned him a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Season and have now secured him a move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 25-year-old also went on to make his debut for the Super Eagles, featuring in the 2026 Unity Cup tournament. He scored both goals on his debut — in a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the semifinals and was also influential in the final win over Jamaica as Nigeria claimed a fourth straight title.

According to BBC Sport, Brighton have reached an agreement with Millwall to sign Femi Azeez for £15 million (approximately ₦27 billion) in a remarkable transfer deadline-day move.

The fee is made up of an initial £12.5 million, with a further £2.5 million in add-ons and the deal represents a record sale for Millwall, surpassing the fee Crystal Palace paid for young winger Romain Esse in the summer of 2024.

Millwall have also made a massive profit from the transfer, having signed Azeez from Reading for just £1 million in 2024.

Femi Azeez will join Brighton on an initial four-year contract, with the option of an additional year, and the deal could potentially keep him at the club until the summer of 2031.

He becomes Brighton's 11th signing of the summer, joining Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna, who arrived earlier in the transfer window from Swedish side AIK.

Brighton have been strengthening their squad ahead of their return to European football for the first time since the 2023-24 season and as they also look to still compete for a higher finish in the Premier League standings at the end of the campaign.

Azeez's arrival could also pave the way for the potential departure of Gambian forward Yankuba Minteh, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah, who left at the end of his contract last season.

Details of Femi Azeez's salary have not been officially disclosed and the Nigerian forward will now travel to complete his medical before signing his contract as a Brighton player ahead of the summer transfer deadline by 11pm tonight.

Once the deal is completed, Azeez will become the seventh Nigerian player in Brighton & Hove Albion's history.
