Victor Osimhen transfer: Tottenham, Atletico Madrid get leeway as Galatasaray name asking fee

Turkish Super Lig Champions Galatasaray have opened the door to a potential departure for Victor Osimhen despite their previous determination to keep the Super Eagles striker in Istanbul, Soccernet.ng reports.

Okan Buruk's side are understood to have set a €65 million asking price for the 27-year-old forward, according to reports from Turkey, after Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal made contact over a possible transfer.

Galatasaray are not completely opposed to Osimhen leaving if their valuation is met, potentially giving Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid renewed hope of landing the Nigerian striker.

Galatasaray name their price for Osimhen

Osimhen joined Galatasaray permanently after his initial loan spell, and followed it up by scoring 22 goals and providing six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

His performances helped Galatasaray maintain their dominance in Turkey and strengthened the striker's status as one of the most sought-after forwards on the market.

The club have previously made it clear that they wanted to build around Osimhen, with the Nigerian linked with the captaincy and the iconic No.9 shirt, which he declined.

However, the latest development suggests Galatasaray are willing to consider offers if a suitor meets their financial expectations. Transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri made it clear that the record Turkish Champions are open to parting ways with the 2023 CAF Player of the Year.

A €65 million valuation would represent a considerably more attainable figure for European clubs than the €150m previously associated with the Super Eagles striker.

Tottenham handed fresh hope

Tottenham are among the clubs who could benefit from Galatasaray's reported stance. The North London club have already shown interest in Osimhen as manager Roberto De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad.

The Nigerian's combination of pace, relentless pressing and goalscoring ability makes him an attractive option for Tottenham, particularly as they look for a striker capable of leading their attack.

Osimhen's ability to stretch defensive lines and attack spaces behind defenders could also complement De Zerbi's attacking approach.

For Tottenham, the reported €65 million asking price could therefore make a potential deal very realistic, but whether the striker will want to join a club of their stature is another question.

Atletico Madrid could reconsider

Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Osimhen, although their pursuit cooled earlier in the summer. Transfer insider Matteo Moretto said that the Spanish club had reservations about the Nigerian's personality and character rather than his footballing ability.

That decision came despite Osimhen's qualities appearing to suit Diego Simeone's demanding style of football. A lower asking price could now give Atletico another reason to reassess their position.

The club would still need to determine whether Osimhen's qualities outweigh their previous concerns, but Galatasaray's willingness to negotiate could put the striker back on their radar.

Osimhen still has the final say

Despite Galatasaray naming their asking price, an agreement between clubs would not automatically guarantee a transfer. Al Hilal would need to convince Osimhen to move to Saudi Arabia, while Tottenham and Atletico would also have to persuade the striker that leaving Istanbul is the right move for his career.

The Nigerian has previously spoken positively about his time in Turkey, while his success at Galatasaray has made him one of the club's most important players.

That means Osimhen's preference could ultimately determine where the transfer saga goes next.

Galatasaray face a major decision

Galatasaray must now weigh the sporting value of keeping Osimhen against the financial benefits of a potential €65 million sale.

The record Turkish champions are keen to compete for major honours, particularly with rivals such as Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor strengthening their squads significantly with Mason Greenwood, Romelu Lukaku and Mohamed Salah, respectively.

Selling Osimhen would provide substantial funds for further recruitment but would also leave Galatasaray with the difficult task of replacing one of the most prolific forwards in World football.
