Super Eagles legend Jay-Jay Okocha mesmerised fans during his playing days with his impeccable football skills, inspiring the likes of Ronaldinho during his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Soccernet.ng reports.
Mikel Arteta has gone on to lift the English Premier League with Arsenal as a coach, while Mauricio Pochettino has coached several top clubs in Europe, but the duo, alongside the legendary Ian Wright, opine that Okocha is the most skilful player they've seen play.
The numbers confirm the well-rounded public opinion of the 1994 AFCON winner after FIFA recently confirmed that Okocha remains the player with the most successful dribbles completed in a single World Cup match.

Okocha tops Messi & Maradona on FIFA World Cup dribbling record
The Nigerian playmaker completed an astonishing 15 successful take-ons during the Round of 16 clash against Italy at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, a figure no player has surpassed in the 32 years since.
What makes the achievement extraordinary is the calibre of opponents Okocha faced that day. The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder danced past some of Italy's finest defenders, including Alessandro Costacurta and Demetrio Albertini, and Paolo Maldini, who was a part of the record-breaking AC Milan team that won the Serie A in the same year, conceding just 15 goals.

Despite Okocha producing one of the greatest individual performances ever seen at football's biggest tournament against the Azzuri, the Super Eagles lost the game after Roberto Baggio cancelled Emmanuel Amunike's opener in the 88th minute.
The former Juventus forward scored the winner in extra time, stopping Nigeria from reaching the quarter-final in their debut Mundial appearance.

Where do Messi and Maradona rank?
While Okocha owns the single-match record, Messi and Maradona dominate other World Cup dribbling categories.
Messi currently holds the record for the most successful dribbles across an entire World Cup career, having completed 125 take-ons during his appearances between 2006 and 2022.
The Argentine captain's longevity, consistency and ability to beat defenders across five tournaments allowed him to move clear of every player in FIFA World Cup history.
Maradona, meanwhile, remains the king of dribbling over a single World Cup edition.
During Argentina's victorious 1986 campaign in Mexico, the Napoli legend completed 53 successful dribbles, the highest total ever recorded in one tournament.

His famous performances against England and Belgium remain among the most iconic displays ever produced in a FIFA World Cup tournament.
The elite list behind Okocha
According to FIFA's records, Okocha's 15 dribbles place him alone at the top of the list.
Brazil's Jairzinho and England midfielder Paul Gascoigne jointly occupy second place with 13 successful dribbles in a match.
A group of football greats follow closely behind with 12 successful take-ons, including Eusebio, Johan Cruyff, Sandro Mazzola, Reinhard Libuda, Diego Maradona and Germany's Jamal Musiala.

Musiala's 12 successful dribbles for Germany against Costa Rica at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup set a Mundial record for the most dribbles by a teenager in a single match since 1966.
While Messi may own the career record, and Maradona may own the tournament record, when it comes to the most successful dribbles in a single FIFA World Cup match, the crown still belongs to Okocha, and for now, the Nigerian magician remains untouchable.
