Cody FC ultimately emerged as champions, claiming the ₦1 million prize, but their dominance told a deeper story. The team produced both the tournament’s top scorer, who netted 18 goals in five days, and the Most Valuable Player, who contributed goals alongside 12 assists, while Addo FA finished third.
Speaking on the structure of the tournament, event collaborator Shola Rogers explained that the format was deliberately designed to maximise participation and intensity.
“We had 60 teams in total. The event kicked off at exactly 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and from there, games ran continuously through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday,” Rogers said.
“We played 87 matches overall. The five-a-side format allowed us to manage the games effectively alongside other activities happening at the venue.”
But beyond logistics, the format revealed a shift in how young Nigerian players express themselves on the pitch.
Shorter games, tighter spaces, and constant rotation forced players to think faster, move smarter, and rely heavily on technical ability, which are increasingly valued in modern football.
Unlike traditional tournaments, the football action blended seamlessly into a broader cultural experience, with matches flowing into all-night activities, including music, gaming, and creative showcases.

With 87 high-intensity matches producing standout performers like Cody FC’s top scorer and MVP, the tournament already demonstrated its potential as an effective talent-discovery platform. Expanding the model nationally could open up new pathways for grassroots players who rarely get exposure on structured scouting stages.
Cities like Port Harcourt and Kaduna, known for their deep football culture, could particularly benefit from such a format, while Abuja and Ibadan offer strong youth football ecosystems that could elevate competition levels.
