Former Super Eagles and Stoke City forward, Peter Osaze Odemwingie, has reacted to Akor Adams' brilliant goal against Algeria in the quarter-final of the AFCON 2025 tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 44-year-old played for Nigeria between 2002 and 2014, accumulating over 60 appearances and scoring 11 goals, including appearances in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

The ex-LOSC Lille attacker was left stunned by Nigeria's display against Algeria in Marrakech three days ago. A dominant display saw Vladimir Petkovic's side register just three shots across 90 minutes.

Odemwingie likens Nigeria's goal to Alex Ferguson's setup

The footballer-turned-golfer revealed Nigeria's second goal embodied what former Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson employed during his time at the Old Trafford dugout.

Like the retired Scottish manager, Nigeria's Eric Chelle also employs a 4-4-2 formation, although a slightly different variation; however, the chemistry between the two players up top is in sync with Ferguson's system.

From Mark Hughes and Brian McClair, to Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke, to Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov, to Wayne Rooney and Van Persie in his final season as a manager, the front two system was a core part of Fergie's success at United.

Akor Adams' goal against Algeria was something of real beauty. Alex Iwobi's line-breaking pass was simply impossible for any Algerian defender to intercept.

The ball fell to Victor Osimhen, whose run drew Ramy Bensebaini in. When the Galatasaray striker opted to pass the ball into Akor Adams' path, only Algeria's goalkeeper, Luca Zidane, was between Akor and the goal.

The Sevilla striker maintained composure in the six-yard box, cutting Luca out, before tapping the ball into the back of the net.

The majority of the Nigerian players initially ran to Victor Osimhen for selflessly passing the ball to Akor, before eventually celebrating as a team. Odemwingie took to his Instagram page to laud the buildup leading to the goal.
