Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has weighed in on Mohamed Salah’s controversial post-match interview, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former Manchester United forward, via his comment on X (formerly Twitter) has urged the Egyptian to bite his lip instead of going public with his frustration.
Salah had sparked major shockwaves after claiming Liverpool had thrown him under the bus following his third consecutive game on the bench under manager Arne Slot.
Salah’s Comments Spark Major Fallout
Salah’s interview, delivered after Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds United, has dominated headlines across the football world.
The 33-year-old expressed deep dissatisfaction with his current situation, noting that he has contributed significantly to the club over the years but now finds himself unexpectedly left on the bench.
He indicated that Liverpool failed to keep promises made to him during the summer and suggested that someone within the club may no longer want him there.
He went further with one of the most explosive lines of the night:
“I can’t believe it, I’m very, very disappointed. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season.
“Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games, so I can’t say they keep the promise.” he said as quoted by The Times.

The former Chelsea forward also admitted his relationship with manager Arne Slot had collapsed, stating:
He added: “I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
Salah even went on to suggest next week’s game against Brighton could be his last before he departs for AFCON with Egypt.
Michael Owen Reacts To Salah's Comment
Reacting on X, club legend Owen expressed sympathy for Salah’s situation but criticised the public nature of the outburst.
“Oh Mo Salah. I can imagine how you feel. You’ve carried this team for a long time and won everything there is to win. But this is a team game and you simply can’t publicly say what you’ve said.”

Owen urged the forward to remain calm ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations:
“You’re going to AFCON in a week. Surely you bite your lip, enjoy representing your country and see how the land lies when you get back?”
