Manchester United 4–1 Wolves: How Arokodare fared in Wanderers’ latest EPL collapse

Manchester United cruised to a dominant 4–1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night to pile up more pressure on Rob Edwards, Soccernet.ng reports.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice and assisted once as United produced one of their most controlled attacking displays of the season.

Wolves, meanwhile, extended their losing streak and remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare came on in the 69th minute as Gary O’Neil sought to inject fresh energy into Wolves' attack.

Although his influence on the match was minimal due to United’s dominance, the brief outing still provided an opportunity to assess Arokodare's contributions from a statistical perspective as the Nigerian national team prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

How Tolu Arokodare Performed vs Manchester United

Arokodare entered the game in the 69th minute, replacing Jørgen Strand Larsen, but he struggled to alter the flow of a match already slipping away from Wolves.

The Nigerian striker played 21 minutes, registered 8 touches, and was rated 6.7 by most statistical pages. However, this can be pinned to the team's overall performance during the game.

Arokodare did not attempt a single shot and failed to complete any dribbles, but he was tidy in possession when involved.

Per Sofascore, he completed three out of four passes (75% accuracy), with all three successful passes in the opposition half (100% accuracy). His contribution in build-up play, though limited, showed efficiency.

His strongest statistical area was aerial presence. Arokodare contested four aerial duels and won all four. This did not come as a surprise as it has long defined his game.

Wolves vs Manchester United: Match Highlight

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the 25th minute after Wolves lost the ball cheaply in midfield. Though Wolves equalised just before the break through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, United regained control early in the second half.

Bryan Mbeumo restored the lead after a swift attacking transition, before Mason Mount made it 3–1 with a composed finish.

Fernandes later sealed the win from the penalty spot after a VAR-reviewed handball incident to complete a standout individual display.

United finished the match with 27 shots (10 on target), while Wolves managed only 6 attempts all game.

Soccernet's Verdict

Wolves were weak in terms of structure and their two shots on target in 90 minutes of the game showed their limited attacking threats.

These were factors to Arokodare's subpar performance in the game and Edwards just have to know how to play a two striker up front with the Super Eagles star and either Jorgen Strand Larsen or Jhon Arias.

Meanwhile for Ruben Amorim's side, the win was a timely boost as they climbed into sixth place and tightened their push for European football.
