Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has issued a heartfelt apology to Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane following a heavy challenge during Nigeria's 3-2 victory on Saturday, reports Soccernet.ng.
Nigeria’s win over Tunisia is one of the most thrilling encounters of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations so far.
While many expected a tight game, the Super Eagles dominated the Carthage Eagles, and had already established a three-goal lead by the 70th minute.

However, there was a moment of controversy in the 67th minute. After Semi Ajayi fouled a Tunisian player in midfield, the referee blew his whistle to stop play.
Despite the whistle, a pass was threaded through to Romdhane, who continued his run toward the Nigerian goal. Nwabali charged out of his area and committed a late, erratic tackle on the Al Ahly man.

While Nwabali escaped a booking, the impact of the challenge was too bad for Romdhane, as it forced him out of the match.
Then on Monday, reports emerged stating that the midfielder sustained an injury that could potentially sideline him for the remainder of the tournament.
Moved by the news, Nwabali took to social media to offer a sincere apology and wish his opponent a speedy recovery.
”I feel so sorry being the reason for your tragedy my friend,” Nwabali wrote.
“Football could be crazy sometimes, high emotions and all that comes with it. I want to wish you the best recovery my friend. I’m sorry my friend Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, from the bottom of my heart.”
