DR Congo defeated the Super Eagles via a penalty shootout on Sunday night.

Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa has praised his DR Congo teammates, following their penalty shootout win over Nigeria's Super Eagles in the final of the CAF World Cup playoffs on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Leopards edged one step closer to reaching their first World Cup since 1972 when they defeated Nigeria at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat. It was a game that kept fans on the edges of their seats.

The first half was pretty square, with both teams going at it. But after Victor Osimhen was subbed off at halftime, the Super Eagles failed to present any form of challenge in the second half.

The Sébastien Desabre-tutored side dominated the fixture. The Super Eagles could barely string three passes before losing the ball to the Leopard.

Nonetheless, thanks to a solid defensive effort from the back four, Nigeria was able to force a penalty shootout.

Unfortunately for the Super Eagles, they lost out to the Leopards in sudden death. This means that they will be Africa's sole representative at the upcoming Intercontinental World Cup playoffs in March 2026.

Recall that the 29-year-old striker is also a DR Congolese player, but he was not available for the fixture due to injury. If he was available, the fixture might have been done in 90 minutes.

He will be hoping to be part of the team that will play the Intercontinental World Cup playoffs next year.
