Ademola Lookman unfollows Atalanta amid January transfer rumours

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman and Ivan Juric recently had a touchline exchange during their 1-nil win against Olympique Marseille…

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has fuelled fresh exit rumours after unfollowing Atalanta on Instagram and archiving all photos of himself wearing the club’s jersey, Soccernet.ng reports.

The latest social media activity comes just days after Lookman’s tense touchline exchange with Atalanta manager Ivan Jurić during their 1-0 victory over Olympique Marseille.

Ademola Lookman’s recent social media activity

Fans noticed the change on Lookman’s verified Instagram account on Saturday, where the Nigerian forward no longer follows Atalanta’s official page and has removed all posts featuring him in the club’s colours.

The move immediately sparked speculation across social media platforms, with many suggesting his growing frustration and desire to leave the Gewiss Stadium.

Ademola Lookman has also archived all Atalanta-related posts on his Instagram.

This is serious.

A section of the Nigerian football community have also interpreted the act as a message to the club’s management following the public exchange with coach Ivan Jurić.

Growing tension between Lookman and Atalanta

Reports suggest Lookman’s relationship with the Atalanta hierarchy has been deteriorating since the 2025 summer transfer window, when the club reportedly blocked several moves away from Bergamo despite interest from top European sides.

The Nigerian forward, who has been one of Atalanta’s most productive players in recent seasons, expressed frustration after the club refused to sanction his departure.

The 2024 CAF Player of the Year had earlier hinted on social media about being unfairly treated by Atalanta. This issue began under former manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who once publicly criticised him for missing a penalty.

Jurić, who replaced Gasperini, appears to have inherited that tension following their public sideline altercation against Marseille.

Possible January exit on the cards

Lookman’s recent actions have now sparked widespread speculation that he could be pushing for a move away when the January transfer window opens.

Several European clubs—including Tottenham Hotspur, Atlético Madrid, and a host of others—are reportedly monitoring his situation closely.

Given his impressive record of 53 goals and 25 assists since joining Atalanta, the 28-year-old forward would not be short of suitors.

What next for the Super Eagles star?

For now, Atalanta have not made any official statement regarding Lookman’s social media actions or his future at the club.

However, the signs point towards a possible separation as tensions continue to rise between the player and management.
