The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now down to the final of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers after sealing a 2-1 win over Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in South Africa, Soccernet.ng reports.

A spot kick goal from William Troost-Ekong and a debut strike from Sevilla's Akor Adams were enough to seal all three points for Eric Chelle's side.

After falling under intense scrutiny for an own goal at the Free State Toyota Stadium against Bafana Bafana, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong revealed the Nigerian stars were frustrated with their first-half performance against Lesotho.

What Ekong said following Super Eagles' victory

In his post-match presser, the former Watford defender praised the Lesotho team for a defiant display, despite their loss.

“I want to start by saying I think Lesotho played a great game,” Troost-Ekong said in an interview posted by NFF Media.

“You know, it wasn't easy to come here. We knew that from the start, and I can understand the disappointment and the frustration because they put up a very good fight.

“These kinds of games are never easy, and the coach explained that the pressure that's on us has been there since March, maybe since the start of the qualifiers, and we just wanted to focus on ourselves.

“It took some time to come out of the changing room[after the first half] because of the frustration, because we all want to do better always,” Ekong concluded.

While Nigeria have to defeat the Republic of Benin in their final qualifier group clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday, they'll need Rwanda to drop points off South Africa simultaneously.
