Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has named Olakunle Olusegun in the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions chase all six points to stand a chance of participating in the 2026 World Cup tournament.

Olusegun, a 23-year-old winger, is one of the fresh faces fans are curious about—although he was previously called up for Nigeria against Russia in a friendly.

Here are seven quick facts to know about Olakunle Olusegun:

1. Kwara-born talent

Olusegun was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, and started his football journey with ABS FC before moving abroad.

5. Loan switch for game time

In July 2025, Olusegun joined FC Pari Nizhny Novgorod on loan from Krasnodar to gain more playing opportunities.

6. Direct and versatile attacker

He is known for his explosive speed, tricky dribbles, and ability to play on either wing. He can also operate as a Left winger, right winger and a supporting striker.

7. Ready for his Super Eagles chance

The upcoming qualifiers could see him make his competitive debut for Nigeria, bolstering Eric Chelle's frontline.
