Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has praised Moises Caicedo after a stunning performance in the win over Liverpool, Soccernet.ng reports.

Enzo Maresca‘s side shook off the previous week's 1-3 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion and welcomed last season's Premier League winners, Liverpool, to Stamford Bridge.

Both teams had a flurry of attempts in the first ten minutes, but Caicedo broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, sending a belter into Giorgi Mamardashvili's goal.

Cody Gakpo scored the equaliser in the second half before a 95th-minute winner by Willian Estevao gifted Chelsea all three points.

Mikel praises Caicedo

Chelsea's win took them within five points of the top spot in the English Premier League going into the October International break, but it was Caicedo's performance that caught Mikel's attention.

“There is no midfield player right now that can give everything that Caicedo gives Chelsea right now. He's absolutely magnificent,” the one-time UEFA Champions League winner said on the Obi One Podcast.

“Breaking up plays, setting up plays, he's first to everything, aggressive, and he's a leader as well. He's a complete football player.

“He's chipping in now with goals, taking shots from outside the box. He's worth every penny we paid for him.”

The former Super Eagles captain also lauded the Ecuadorian midfielder in comparison to the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, N'Golo Kante.

“Same breath as Kante? N'golo was a different animal,” Mikel continued.

“I love both of them. N'golo was just too quick, too good, could get his way out of any situation because he was too fast, and he can run all day and night, but Caicedo can do that as well.

“I think both are pretty much equal. If I had to choose, it's a tough pick,” the two-time English Premier League winner concluded.

Up next for the Blues, after the International break, is a trip to the City Ground, where they face Nottingham Forest.
