The news of Victor Osimhen’s transfer move to Galatasaray has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s social media space, Soccernet.ng reports.

A large section of the Nigerian football community has praised the striker’s decision and the massive financial package that came with it.

Osimhen, who completed a €75 million move from Napoli to the Turkish champions, is set to earn €15 million in guaranteed net salary per season, along with a €1 million loyalty bonus and €5 million per year in image rights, which brings his annual earnings to €21 million.

The deal makes him the highest-paid footballer in Turkish Süper Lig history and Galatasaray’s most expensive acquisition ever.

Another user, @EmekaUtchay, also supported with the same sentiments:

“Galatasaray really broke the bank for Osimhen. Happy for him. €21,000,000 net salary + bonus per season.”

However, beyond the financial aspect, there was a profound sense of national pride toward the 26-year-old striker. User @kokoghostmode wrote:

“We are happy with his choice. Please take care of him. And we appreciate all the love and care you have shown him since he landed in Galatasaray last season. I pray he works with the team to bring home the UEFA Champions League trophy.”

A lone voice questions the contract length

On Soccernet’s official Facebook page, fan Agoben Tesky Timothy Oghalomeno raised a concern that stood out from the sea of praise, writing:

“Just sign a 2-year contract. Why 4 years?”

Many have celebrated the long-term deal as a new sign of commitment to another club after a tough transfer move from Napoli.
