Super Eagles B and Remo Stars captain Junior Nduka has signed for Iraqi Stars League side Erbil FC after winning the NPFL last season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old led the Sky Blue Stars to their first-ever league triumph under coach Daniel Ogunmodede in the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

His plaudits also saw him captain the home-based Super Eagles team at the 2024 CHAN tournament under Eric Chelle, although Nigeria performed woefully.

Nduka racked up 132 appearances for Remo Stars across all competitions and has now joined Erbil in Iraq. The move has raised many eyebrows, as it didn't take the conventional route of players who choose to exit the NPFL.

The former Super Eagles coach was delighted that a player from the Nigerian league made a move to a club abroad, but mentioned how the choice could harm Nduka's chances with the National Team.

“First of all, I want to say congratulations to the boy, he is a very good player, no doubt about that,” the Super Eagles Technical Director said in quotes revealed by Brila.

“I also know that the owner of Remo Stars will not stop any of his players from seeking new opportunities, so this was all down to the player himself.

“Honestly speaking, I think because of the club playing in the CAF Champions League, it would have been another market for him to showcase his talent, but who knows tomorrow, nobody knows.

“His moving to Iraq is so obvious that the money will be financially satisfactory, the money he will be paid in the country will be more than what he was seeing in Remo Stars.

“Life after football is very important. Again, you can’t compare the Iraqi league to our CAF Champions League, but from there, he could end up playing in Saudi Arabia; no one can tell.

“We wish him well, hopefully we will see him back in the national team as fast as possible, but not when he is playing in Iraq,” the 60-year-old concluded.

Nduka played all three games for the Super Eagles B as they were knocked out of the CHAN 2024 tournament in the Group Stage.
