The Super Falcons of Nigeria began their Sunday morning with a church service in camp as they prepare for their final Group B fixture against Algeria at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a video shared on social media, the Falcons were seen gathered for prayers and worship songs, with players including Michelle Alozie, Asisat Oshoala, and Ashleigh Plumptre visibly participating.

While Alozie appeared relaxed and fresh from rest, Oshoala and Plumptre looked energetic, singing along as the team showed gratitude ahead of tonight’s crucial encounter.

The mood in camp remains calm yet focused, as Nigeria already secured qualification to the quarterfinals following back-to-back wins over Tunisia and Botswana.

However, head coach Justin Madugu has insisted that there is no room for complacency, even with top spot nearly secured.

“It is always work in progress. Even if we score 10 goals, there will still be things we need to work on. We’ll definitely make some changes in the last game against Algeria. Not because we’re fielding a weaker team—all our players are capable—but because we need to manage the squad carefully.”

The Super Falcons battled to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Botswana in their last match, with Chinwendu Ihezuo scoring the decisive goal late in the game.

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade also spoke after the victory, and assured that the team remains fit and motivated.

“Talking about myself, I don’t have any injuries, and I am 100 percent fit. I am doing what I can to the best of my abilities, and I will keep pushing.”

The former Atlético Madrid forward also praised the level of competition at WAFCON:

“Botswana is a good side. In this tournament, nobody can be underrated. The fact that we are Nigerians doesn’t mean it is going to be an easy sail over for us.”

Meanwhile, the team’s preparation hasn’t been without off-field challenges. NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau confirmed in Casablanca that the Super Falcons' new training kits were delayed due to Moroccan customs issues, which had forced them to train in old match gear.

Despite these logistical hiccups, spirits appear high in the Nigerian camp, with the team looking to complete their group-stage campaign with a third straight win.

The Super Falcons face Algeria tonight at 8:00 p.m. Nigerian time, with the aim of maintaining their unbeaten run at the WAFCON 2024.
