Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has revealed a surprising side to her life off the pitch, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 21-year-old, who is currently representing Nigeria at the ongoing TotalEnergies WAFCON 2024, shared this revelation during an interview with Elegbete TV, where she opened up about her love for music and how it complements her football career.

Nicknamed ‘Kanté' for her tireless work rate and ball-winning abilities, Abiodun has been a standout performer in Nigeria's unbeaten run at the tournament.

But beyond her fierce tackles, the petite midfielder carries the same energy of spinning tracks as a DJ into her life away from football.

“Off the pitch, I’d say I’m just someone who loves to make people happy,” Abiodun said. “I’m also a DJ, so that’s another way I get to share that energy. Growing up with four brothers, there was always a lot of energy—rough play, competition—and I think that’s where I got my drive and energy from.”

Her musical side, she explained, is a reflection of her vibrant personality. According to Abiodun, music helps her maintain a positive mindset and stay connected to her roots even while navigating the pressures of professional football.

The Dallas Trinity loanee, who made her senior debut for Nigeria in 2022, has continued to develop her game with the support of the more experienced players in the squad.

She praised the team’s spirit and how the mentorship of senior players has helped her thrive in high-pressure tournaments like WAFCON.

“It’s been a very interesting journey—one I’m truly grateful for. Every time I get to wear the Nigerian jersey, whether it’s on a big or small stage, I always bring the same hunger and fight. It’s about putting the nation and the team first,” she added. “The transition has been great, especially with the support from my amazing teammates. The senior players have been incredibly helpful, and the whole experience has been awesome. It’s been a continuous learning process.”

Abiodun has played a crucial role in the Super Falcons’ impressive run so far at WAFCON 2024, and has helped the team remain unbeaten and yet to concede a goal.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will look to her skills once again when they take on South Africa in a highly anticipated semifinal clash later today in Casablanca.
