Former Atalanta coach Bortolo Mutti believes that Napoli will have a good chance of defending their Serie A title if they sign a Super Eagles star, Soccernet.ng reports.
Last season, Napoli won their second Scudetto in three seasons. Their success last season was quite unprecedented, as the team lacked some of the protagonists who were key in their previous league win.
Top stars like Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Kim Min-Jae, and a few others left Naples for other top clubs.
Last season, Napoli boss Antonio Conte had to make do with the likes of Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku, and they delivered.
Next season, the Partenopeans will have to do better, as they will be playing in the UEFA Champions League and other clubs will be looking at bringing them down.
Hence, Napoli are looking at bringing in reinforcements. Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman is one of the players they have been linked with.
Lookman has been one of the best players in the Serie A for the past three years. He has been the tormentor-in-chief for Atalanta. The 27-year-old forward has contributed 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 games for La Dea.
However, he is expected to leave Bergamo in the summer, with one year left on his contract. Atalanta want at least €60 million before they let the Super Eagles star leave, but Napoli are only willing to pay €60 million at the moment.
What Bortolo Mutti said about Ademola Lookman
Meanwhile, former Atalanta and Napoli coach Mutti was asked about the transfer, and he was quite positive. He believes that signing Lookman could land the Scudetto from Napoli.
“Lookman is an immense footballer who is fun and makes you win matches. He always manages to invent the play, he is a fundamental piece for Atalanta,” Mutti told Radio Kiss, per Napoli Magazine.
“….If Napoli signs Lookman and Lorenzo Lucca too then they would win the championship again.”
After spending the last three years in Italy, Lookman would definitely favour a move away from the Serie A.
However, if he does not offers from abroad, he might consider joining Juventus or Napoli.
