The 2024–25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season delivered excitement and history-making moments for football fans across the nation, Soccernet.ng reports.

From Remo Stars' fairytale title win to record-breaking performances and shocking relegations, the campaign had it all.

Here are 13 key facts that defined the just-concluded season:

  • Remo Stars FC clinched their first-ever NPFL title on April 27, 2025, and formally sealed the championship after defeating Ikorodu City 4–1 on May 11, finishing top of the table with 71 points.

  • A total of 784 goals were scored across the 380-match 2024–25 NPFL season, which ran from August 31, 2024, to May 25, 2025.
  • Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United emerged as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals.

  • The League Management Company increased the champions’ prize money to ₦200 million, a ₦50 million boost from the previous season.
  • Remo Stars became the first club from South-West Nigeria to win the NPFL since Julius Berger in 2000 and the first privately owned team to do so since Udoji United in 1996.
  • Shooting Stars SC, founded in 1950, remains one of the oldest football clubs still active in the NPFL.
  • Despite being known for their solid away form earlier in the season, Heartland FC was relegated, capping a dramatic decline.
  • Lobi Stars, who were winless after six rounds, ended the season with a 21-match winless run—the longest of the campaign—and were relegated.
