Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is unhappy about his purported transfer from Southampton to former Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor, Soccernet.ng reports.

Over the past year, Onuachu has been continuously linked with Trabzonspor. Recall that two seasons ago he joined the club from Southampton in a season-long loan. He performed at a high level there, contributing 17 goals and four assists in 25 games.

Upon the expiration of the loan, there were talks that the Turkish side wanted to make the deal permanent. But they were unable to meet Southampton's valuation of the Super Eagles striker.

Coming into this summer, it was expected that it would be a straightforward transfer, as Onuachu's value has dropped significantly to €8 million, and the club have suffered relegation to the Championship, which means they will have to sell.

Last week, Soccernet.ng even reported that Southampton and Trabzonspor had already agreed on a fee. But it appears that things have cooled off for a while.

In a new development, per Buchi Laba, Southampton have now back-pedaled on their agreement with Trabzonspor, and this has left Onuachu frustrated.

“Paul Onuachu is very frustrated. Southampton keeps shifting the post,” ‘Buchi Laba wrote.

“I was told days ago a deal has been agreed and now they’re back to negotiations.”

Why are Southampton playing hard ball with Trabzonspor for Paul Onuachu?

Southampton paid Genk €15 million for Paul Onuachu, and selling him for €8 million would be a significant loss for them. As such, they might be looking at getting a higher fee from Trabzonspor.

On the other hand, Southampton have a new coach in Will Still, and he just might fancy making Onuachu an important player in their promotion battle in the Championship next season.

Nonetheless, in the coming weeks, Onuachu's future should become clearer.
