Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru has turned down recent offers from Turkish sides İstanbul Başakşehir and Beşiktaş due to unsatisfactory wage proposals, Soccernet.ng report.
With just three days left on his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha, Onyekuru is weighing his options carefully and is in no rush to make a decision regarding his future, per reports from Nigerian Journalist, Buchi Laba.
He further reported that sources close to the player revealed that Onyekuru was in Istanbul in recent days to hold talks with Başakşehir, but negotiations broke down after the club’s wage offer failed to meet the Nigerian star’s expectations.
Despite the breakdown in talks with the Turkish clubs, Onyekuru is not short of suitors.
Reports suggest that two clubs from Saudi Arabia have submitted interest in recent days, while UAE-based teams have also made serious inquiries about his availability.
The 28-year-old will officially become a free agent on June 30, giving him the freedom to choose his next destination without any transfer fees involved.
The Nigerian international, however, is not rushing into a decision. His camp is taking time to evaluate all proposals before committing to a move.
Should Henry Onyekuru consider Gulf clubs?
With interest from Saudi Arabia and the UAE intensifying, a move to the Gulf could offer Onyekuru financial stability.
The region has become an attractive destination for many top players, with competitive wages, and world-class facilities.
However, Onyekuru still has several years left at the top level. Choosing the Gulf over a return to Europe or Turkey could limit his visibility in mainstream football and impact his chances with the Super Eagles.
