Super Eagles defender Jordan Torunarigha is set to leave the Belgian Jupiler Pro League for a German Bundesliga club in the coming days, Soccernet.ng reports.

Torunarigha's future has been in the balance for the past two years, as there have been speculations about a potential Gent exit.

The 27-year-old centre-back joined Gent from Hertha Berlin in 2022, and he grew to become one of the best players at the club. Torunarigha was the rock in Gent's backline, as he shone with his prowess in aerial situations, tackling ability and strong passing skills.

Last year, there were talks about a possible move for the Super Eagles star, but he ultimately had to stay with Gent, as the club refused to sell.

However, Torunarigha is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Gent. Meanwhile, in recent months, Lyon, Marseille, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Anderlecht have been linked with the Super Eagles star.

Newly-promoted German Bundesliga club Hamburger have also been in the mix, and it appears he is set to join the club.

According to German football reporter Florian Plettigoal, Torunarigha is set to join Hamburger SV subject to a medical which will take place on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles star will sign a three-year contract at Hamburger which will keep him there until 2028.

Hamburger just gained promotion to the German Bundesliga after seven years in the Bundesliga 2. They are one of the most historic clubs in Germany, as they have won the UEFA Champions League (formerly European Cup), the German championship (now Bundesliga) and the DFB Pokal.

Before their relegation in 2018, they were the only club to never drop from the Bundesliga.

Torunarigha will hope to play an important role for Hamburger next season as they fight to survive the drop in their first season back in the German top flight.

Jordan Torunarigha could fight his way back into the Super Eagles squad with this move

Jordan Torunarigha has not been part of the Super Eagles squad for a while, but this transfer could help him get back in contention for a place in the national team.

Unlike when he was in Belgium, Torunarigha will get more visibility in Germany. He will also play with and against better players.

If he shines with Hamburger next season, that could be his ticket back into the Super Eagles squad.

Torunarigha was born to Nigerian parents in Germany and played for them at youth level, but he switched allegiances to Nigeria in 2023. He has one cap for the Super Eagles.
