Michael Olise has surged to the summit of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 top scorers’ chart, edging past a host of global superstars including Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María, Thomas Müller, and Harry Kane, Soccernet.ng reports.

Olise, born to a Nigerian father, netted his third goal of the tournament to overtake fellow Bayern Munich teammate Jamal Musiala and Benfica winger Di María in the race for the Top Goalscorer Award, presented by Bank of America.

Musiala, also of Nigerian descent, shares second spot with Di María on three goals after his impressive hattrick in Bayern’s 10-0 demolition of Auckland City.

Olise, however, has now equalled that tally but claimed top spot due to fewer minutes played and a more decisive goal contribution rate.

The list of scorers also includes Bayern’s experienced forward Thomas Müller and French winger Kingsley Coman, both on two goals, alongside Juventus duo Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceição.

Also on two goals are Benfica’s Leandro Barreiro, Atlético Madrid’s Pablo Barrios, Botafogo’s Igor Jesus, and Chelsea's Pedro Neto.

Further down the chart are global icons Lionel Messi, Phil Foden, Nicolás Otamendi, and Harry Kane, all with one goal each.

While Nigeria may not be participating in the competition, the exploits of Olise and Musiala — two players eligible to represent the Super Eagles in the past — continue to stir pride among Nigerian football fans.

With the tournament still in its early stages, Olise and Musiala remain strong contenders for the Golden Boot award.
