“It’s unlikely” – Super Eagles legend groomed at Barça reacts to Guirassy’s potential Nou Camp move

Former Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Amuneke has reacted to reports linking Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy with a potential move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Guinean international has been tipped as a potential successor to Poland star Robert Lewandowski, with speculation heating up as the 2025 summer transfer window approaches.

Speaking to Africa Foot, Amuneke — who was groomed at Barcelona between 1996 and 2000 — shared his thoughts on why a move to the Nou Camp might not be in the best interest of either party.

“Guirassy is a proven goalscorer who can play for all the top teams in Europe, but can Barcelona sign him? Don’t get me wrong, Guirassy is an excellent goalscorer, and he’s been consistent over the last two or three seasons. I might take him if it were up to me — I admire his qualities. But he’s 29, and Barcelona is building for the long-term future.”

Guirassy, who recently joined Dortmund from Stuttgart, is currently valued at €40 million. However, the German club are expected to demand significantly more for his services next summer.

Amuneke believes Barcelona are no longer a club known for spending heavily on transfers, instead they focus on their famed La Masia academy and scouting for players nearing the end of their contracts.

“When you look closely, Barcelona has shifted its focus to its academy and no longer spends obscene amounts of money to recruit ready-made stars. I don’t think they will go for him. With his contract, Dortmund would likely be asking for upwards of €60 million, if not more. It would work, but it’s unlikely to happen,” he added.

Barcelona are also reportedly in the race to sign Victor Osimhen, alongside Manchester United and Chelsea. However, the Nigerian’s high release clause could prove to be a stumbling block for the Catalan giants next summer.
