Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is currently recovering from urgent surgery after suffering a serious abdominal injury during his side’s Premier League clash against Leicester City on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Amid growing concern over the extent of his condition — with reports suggesting he was temporarily placed in an ‘induced coma' for emergency medical attention — the football world has rallied around the Nigerian forward.

Among those who sent heartfelt messages was Senegalese star Sadio Mane, who responded to Nottingham Forest's official statement on Awoniyi's injury.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Mane wrote: “Get well soon my brother! My prayers are with you and your family.”

Nottingham Forest confirmed that Awoniyi is recovering well and thanked medical staff for their swift intervention.

Part of the club’s official statement read: “The seriousness of his injury is a powerful reminder of the physical risks in the game, and why a player's health and well-being must always come first. At Nottingham Forest, this principle is not just policy for us; it is the deeply held belief and conviction of our owner. To Evangelos Marinakis, this isn't just a football club – it's family – and he instils that message in all of us.”
