Victor Osimhen: Nigeria & Galatasaray star’s market value drops as Barcelona plan summer swoop

Victor Osimhen’s market value has taken another hit, despite his prolific form in Turkey, Soccernet.ng reports.

Transfermarkt’s latest update has downgraded the Nigerian striker’s valuation from €75 million to €70 million – the second consecutive reduction since he arrived at Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last summer.

Osimhen initially joined the Turkish champions with a €100 million valuation, but the lack of a big-money transfer to a European top league has seen his price steadily decline. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old remains the most valuable player in the Süper Lig.

“In the winter, there were countless speculations on whether Osimhen was going to leave Galatasaray before the end of his loan from Napoli,” Türkiye Area Manager at Transfermarkt, Lara Karacan, said.

“According to media reports, several clubs would have been willing to trigger his €75 million exit clause. But Osimhen decided to stay in the Süper Lig until the end of the season. For a player of his market value, such a decision certainly impacts his image and explains his drop in market value.”

Despite the downgrade, Osimhen continues to shine on the pitch. The Super Eagles star has been in red-hot form, netting 26 goals and providing five assists in 30 games across all competitions for Galatasaray.

His performances have attracted interest from European heavyweights, with La Liga giants Barcelona reportedly considering a move for the striker in 2025.

Barcelona eye Victor Osimhen as Lewandowski’s successor

Barcelona are planning for life after Robert Lewandowski, and Osimhen has emerged as a prime candidate to lead their attack in the future.

According to Football Italia, citing Corriere dello Sport, the Catalan club are looking to sign the Nigerian forward for less than his €75 million release clause in the summer of 2025.

With Lewandowski still in fine form at 36, having scored an astonishing 35 goals this season, Barcelona are preparing for a gradual transition. Osimhen’s dynamism, pace, and finishing ability make him an attractive option to eventually take over as the club’s main striker.

Barcelona are also monitoring other targets, including Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović. However, Osimhen’s pedigree and ability to complement teenage sensation Lamine Yamal could make him their priority signing.

Osimhen’s contract with Napoli runs until June 2026, with an option for the Serie A side to extend it by another year to avoid losing him for free. However, tensions between the striker and the club could see them willing to negotiate a deal below his release clause.

Soccernet.ng’s verdict

The coming months will be crucial in determining Osimhen’s next move.

While he continues to dominate in Turkey, the drop in his market value may play a role in shaping his future.

If Barcelona or another top European club decide to make a move, the Super Eagles star could finally secure the transfer he has been linked with for so long.
