Onuachu: Southampton put Super Eagles star’s contract talks on hold – Report

Relegation-threatened English Premier League side, Southampton FC, have halted their contract negotiations with Super Eagles attacker, Paul Onuachu, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to reports from Africa Foot, the Saints are considering their future in the Premier League before making further decisions on his future as a member of the squad.

The Nigeria international is left with one year on his contract, and his new form has sparked speculation about his future at the club.

Meanwhile, per reports, the club, which is rooted at the bottom of the EPL standings, is aiming to part ways with some experienced players to free up finances and make room for the purchase of young talent.

As a result, this could also affect Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo, who was previously on the brink of leaving the club for Turkey during the last summer transfer window.

Onuachu, however, will be hoping to keep his goalscoring form sharp, as this will pique the interest of top European clubs looking to bolster their squads with his finishing abilities.

Over time, Trabzonspor has been looking to lure him back to the club after his outstanding performance of 17 goals in 25 appearances during his season-long loan move from Southampton in the 2023-24 campaign.

Meanwhile, they could still be in the market for his signature in the upcoming summer window but will be ready to battle it out with several other European clubs for his services.
