Galatasaray return for Super Eagles star set for 63rd Nigeria cap against Rwanda

Turkish giants Galatasaray have reignited their pursuit of Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who currently plies his trade with Leicester City in the Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ndidi, 28, has been a key figure for Leicester since his arrival from Belgian side KRC Genk in 2017.

Over the past eight years, he has made 295 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 21 assists, making him one of the club’s most consistent performers.

His time at Leicester has seen him lift the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021, as well as play a crucial role in helping the Foxes return to the Premier League last season after a year in the Championship.

However, Leicester’s top-flight status is once again under threat, and with the club currently struggling in the relegation zone, Ndidi could seek a fresh challenge.

Galatasaray to make another attempt for Super Eagles’ Ndidi

Galatasaray, long-time admirers of the Nigerian midfielder, are once again considering a move for him as they plan for next season, according to Ajansspor.

The Turkish champions had previously expressed interest in Ndidi last summer, but a deal did not materialise.

As per the reports, Ndidi is now open to leaving Leicester as the club’s Premier League survival hopes fade. It is believed that Galatasaray will table an offer, and this time, the midfielder is more likely to consider it.

This season, Ndidi has featured 22 times for Leicester across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing four assists while playing 1,785 minutes of football. His ability to operate as both a defensive midfielder and in a box-to-box role makes him a valuable asset for any side.

Ndidi set for 63rd Super Eagles cap

Ndidi’s immediate focus, however, is on international duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The midfielder is one of 23 players named in head coach Eric Chelle’s squad for Friday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

Since making his senior debut for Nigeria in 2015, Ndidi has earned 62 caps, and should he feature in Kigali, he will mark his 63rd appearance for the three-time African champions.

Nigeria, who have played in six World Cups since their debut in 1994, missed out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.

With the Super Eagles winless after four games, Friday’s match is a must-win if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive for the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
