Super Falcons and Houston Dash defender Michelle Alozie has shared her ranking of the world’s biggest sporting events, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigeria international, born in the United States of America, has placed the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Champions League final above the Super Bowl.

This has sparked debate on social media after declaring the NFL’s biggest night as only the third most significant sports event globally.

What Did Michelle Alozie Say?

Alozie, who dons the colour of Houston Dash in the United States, made her comments during the recent Super Bowl weekend.

Taking to her social media page, she posted, “Super Bowl night. The third biggest sports night.” A follower then asked her to name the top two events, to which she replied, “The World Cup and then the Champions League final game, of course.”

This has sparked engagement from football fans, who are debating her rankings and others agreeing with her assessment of the global games.

Michelle Alozie’s Performance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup

Alozie played a crucial role for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she started all four of the Super Falcons’ matches and displayed impressive performance for the Randy Waldrum-led side.

Nigeria reached the Round of 16, where they faced European champions England in a clash that ended in a goalless draw after extra time. The Super Falcons were eventually eliminated on (4-2) penalties, but Alozie’s performance earned her praise.

The Viral Lauren James Incident

Despite Nigeria’s heartbreaking exit, one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament involved Alozie.

In the 87th minute of the match against England, Lionesses star Lauren James was sent off for stamping on Alozie’s back in frustration. The incident went viral, which made Alozie a trending topic.

Rather than react angrily, the Nigerian defender responded with maturity, later tweeting:

“Abeg, it’s just football. We’re playing on the world’s stage. This moment matters, and we’re all just playing with our hearts.”

James later apologised, and Alozie showed no hard feelings.
