Victor Osimhen: Liverpool eye Super Eagles star as replacement for €85 million flop

English Premier League giants Liverpool are big admirers of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and could sign him as Darwin Nunez’s replacement, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen has drawn a lot of interest from top teams across Europe due to his consistently impressive performances.

The 26-year-old striker was heavily linked with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea last season, but all talks failed to materialize, as none of them put a decent offer on the table.

This season, Osimhen is on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, but he has continued to prove his worth. The former Lille man has produced 13 goals and five assists in 16 appearances for the Lions.

There have been a lot of speculations about a possible transfer to Manchester United this January, but nothing concrete has happened yet. Now, in a new development, per Transfer News Live, Liverpool could enter the mix.

The Reds are big admirers of Osimhen and could try to sign him if they sell Darwin Nunez, who has performed way below expectations.

Can Victor Osimhen perform better than Darwin Nunez?

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 in a deal worth €85 million. At the time, he was expected to be one of the biggest stars in the Premier League. However, Liverpool fans are yet to derive much joy from him.

Though blessed with pace, trickery and wicked shot power, Nunez has developed a penchant for missing even the easiest of chances. Hence, he has become a bench warmer, with Arne Slot favoring Luiz Diaz- a winger, over him.

Liverpool, who are known to be frugal, could sell Nunez in the summer, as they look to recoup a good chunk of the money they invested in him. And Osimhen might just be the right reinvestment.

The Super Eagles star has proven to be a fox in the box and can create something out of nothing. With his goalscoring prowess, he could be the perfect fit for a Liverpool side that creates many chances.

Moreover, Osimhen would cost around €80 million, an amount Liverpool would not mind parting with, if they eventually sell Nunez.

With the summer approaching, Osimhen’s next destination is expected to become clearer.
