Sevilla FC: Nigerian prospect Ola Great receives trial invitation from La Liga club

Nigerian footballer Ola Great has received an official trial invitation from the Spanish La Liga club international team, Sevilla FC D, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ola Great gained widespread attention after his tweet requesting a trial with Sevilla went viral, surpassing 100,000 retweets.

The challenge, initially set by the club’s English X (formerly Twitter) account, led to increased social media engagement and speculation about his chances.

Olagreats asks Sevilla FC for trial

Now, in a recent development, fellow Nigerian and Sevilla FC D player Chimezie Paul Obi has personally invited Ola Great for a trial. In a message shared on Sevilla’s official social media handle, Obi said:

“Hello Ola, I am Obi Paul, I am a player of Sevilla FC D, and we would love for you to come and take a trial with our international team. We are waiting for you.”

Sevilla FC D is set to compete in the ninth tier of Spanish football, Tercera Andaluza, and will feature under-19 players from around the world.

According to a statement from Sevilla FC, the initiative is for a sporting and strategic international development purpose that would help the club expand its reach.

“Starting this season, Sevilla FC will have a new team within its competitive structure. It will be a squad with a strong international dimension and will compete in the Tercera Andaluza, in the ninth tier of Spanish football. It will consist of foreign players aged 18 in line with FIFA regulations. The project is not only sports-related but also a strategic international development initiative, allowing foreign players to help the club grow in various key markets,” Sevilla FC announced.

This confirmation makes a big call for Ola Great, who previously played for Superstar FC in the Lagos Liga and Futa Tigers in the Nigerian University League Games.

Ola Great receives trial from Sevilla

Should the trial be successful, he could follow in the footsteps of Nigerian footballers like Kelechi Iheanacho, Akor Adams, and Chidera Ejuke at the club, but he would be playing for Sevilla FC D, the international team of the Spanish club.
