Serie A: Nigerian star on the radar of Atalanta set to miss Inter Milan vs Empoli clash

Empoli have announced that Nigerian midfielder Tino Anjorin will miss the upcoming Serie A fixture against Inter Milan due to a fresh injury setback, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old suffered a low-grade lesion to his right thigh flexor, confirmed through medical tests following his absence from Empoli’s 3-1 home defeat to Lecce last weekend.

In a statement published on their official website, the club said:

“Empoli Football Club announces that the instrumental tests performed today on the player Tino Anjorin have revealed a low-grade lesion to the right thigh flexor. The player has already begun the rehabilitation process with the blue medical staff.”

The injury, sustained during training last week, is expected to sideline Anjorin for 2–3 weeks, effectively ruling him out of crucial matches against Inter Milan, Bologna, and potentially Juventus.

Athletes recovering from such injuries often require additional time to regain full strength and confidence, making his return to action unlikely until February.

Anjorin, currently enjoying his debut season in Serie A, has been a standout performer for struggling Empoli, contributing three assists in 15 league appearances.

His creativity as an attacking midfielder has drawn interest from Atalanta and Torino, though his latest injury could hinder any potential January transfer.

The former Chelsea attacking midfielder is not the only Empoli player of Nigerian descent battling fitness issues.

Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi has been sidelined for over a year after a series of setbacks, including a hamstring injury in January 2024 and an ACL rupture in March.

The former FC Twente fullback played just 15 games during the 2023/24 campaign but is reportedly nearing a return, with his comeback date set for January 2025.
