Africa Player of the Year Lookman claims spot in Serie A Team of the Year

Ademola Lookman’s sensational performances in 2024 have earned him a spot in the prestigious Serie A Team of the Year, compiled by football statistics website Whoscored.com, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles star who has become a beacon of excellence for his club and country, is the only Atalanta player on the list, a testament to his incredible form over the year.

Lookman’s achievements in 2024 were remarkable. He was instrumental in Atalanta’s journey to two major finals, the

Coppa Italia and the UEFA Europa League. While Atalanta suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, Lookman spearheaded a stunning triumph for the Bergamo-based side by netting a sensational hat-trick in the Europa League final.

His heroics secured a 3-0 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen, handing Atalanta their first European title in history.

The 27-year-old Nigerian also made headlines by becoming the only African player shortlisted for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, where he finished 14th.

To cap off his phenomenal year, Lookman was named the CAF Player of the Year, making him the sixth Nigerian to claim the prestigious title.

Whoscored.com’s Team of the Year also features Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, Marcus Thuram, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, as well as Christian Pulisic of AC Milan.

However, Lookman’s inclusion stands out as he continues to solidify his reputation as one of Africa’s brightest stars in European football.

With Atalanta currently leading the Serie A standings and Lookman contributing 11 goals and six assists in 20 appearances this season, the future looks incredibly bright for the Super Eagles forward.
