Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare scored Genk’s solitary goal in their 2-1 loss to Club Brugge in the semifinal of the Belgian Cup on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Belgian giants Club Brugge and Genk locked horns at the Jan Breydel Stadium for their Belgian Cup semifinal clash on Wednesday. Historically, Brugge have always been the bigger side, as they have the highest number of titles in Belgium.
Both teams had Nigerian played heading into the game, with Arokodare leading the line for the Smurfs, while Raphael Onyedika featured in defence for Club Brugge.
Genk dominated the first half and created the better chances. Eventually, Arokodare scored the opener for them in the 28th minute. The Nigerian striker showed his great striker’s instinct to latch onto a cross from Jarne Steuckers and placed a clean finish into the bottom-right corner to make it 1-0.
However, that lead did not last long, as Joel Ordonez scored the equalizer for Club Brugge in the 34th minute.
The first half ended all square, but Christos Szolis scored the second for Club Brugge in the 74th minute to seal the win.
Arokodare played 74 minutes, as he had a very silent second half. The result effectively knocks out Genk from the Belgian Cup, with Club Brugge set to take on the winner between Anderlecht and Antwerp.
Christantus Uche sends Getafe to Copa del Rey quarterfinals
Christantus Uche maintained his place in the starting eleven when Getafe traveled to Pontevedra for their Copa dey Rey round of 16 tie.
Getafe were slight favourites due to their superior quality, and it took them just two minutes to take the lead. Nigerian striker Uche had a hand in it, as he laid a pss off to Alvaro Rodriguez in the final third. The Spaniard then beat two players and sent a low effort from over 25 years into the net to make it 1-0.
Getafe were dominated, but they created the better chances. They suffered a setback when Rodriguez was sent off in the 41st minute. Nonetheless, Getafe just held on strong to ensure it ended 1-0 and they sealed their place in the quarterfinals.
