What Tolu Arokodare said after helping Genk set a new club record with dominant win over Anderlecht

Tolu Arokodare has expressed his delight at being part of history-making at KRC Genk after the club defeated RSC Anderlecht 2-0 at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Towering Nigerian striker Arokodare was the star of the show, scoring one goal and providing an assist to help his team extend their club record to nine consecutive home wins.

The match began evenly, with both teams probing for an advantage. However, Genk soon asserted dominance, creating several scoring opportunities.

Arokodare, who entered the record books of his own, proved a constant menace to the Anderlecht defence, forcing goalkeeper Coosemans into action multiple times. His persistence paid off in the 30th minute when he capitalised on a superb cross from El Ouahdi to slot home the opener.

Anderlecht struggled to mount a response before the break. A single attempt from Edozie, comfortably saved by Van Crombrugge, was their only significant threat.

After halftime, Genk maintained control.

Greek-Belgian star Karetsas had a rollercoaster second half, first denied by Coosemans and then having a goal disallowed for offside.

However, he eventually found the back of the net after Arokodare unselfishly set him up, securing the decisive second goal.

Reflecting on the victory, Arokodare emphasised its significance for the team and fans.

Speaking to DAZN as per Voetbal Primeur, he said:

“This is an important victory for us. We dominated from the first to the last minute. It was the perfect reaction after the match against Club Brugge.

“This was the match that our club and the fans needed. Our fans continued to support us even after the defeat last week.”

Arokodare also expressed pride in his contributions.

“Of course, I am happy with my goal. We are making history today with our ninth home win in a row. I am happy to be part of Genk history,” he said.

Genk’s patient and methodical approach proved key to the victory, as Arokodare noted:

“We were patient. That’s our game. We let the ball go well and we knew the chances would come. I could have scored more, but I’m happy with the win and the record.”

The victory solidifies Genk’s position at the top of the Belgian Pro League with 41 points from 19 games, three ahead of second-place Club Brugge, who drew 2-2 with Union Saint-Gilloise.
