Fenerbahçe close to securing Osayi-Samuel’s future with 3-year deal, despite personal ties to London

Super Lig side, Fenerbahçe Sk, have reportedly reached an agreement to extend Bright Osayi-Samuel’s contract for another three years, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to Transfermarkt, citing Fanatik, the new deal, which will run until 2027, is expected to be officially announced by the club in the coming days.

The 26-year-old Nigerian star has been a vital figure for the Turkish giants since joining in 2021 from Queens Park Rangers, impressing with his contribution to the team’s defence and attack.

His renewal comes after months of speculation surrounding his future, fuelled by interest from English Premier League clubs and personal factors.

In October, reports emerged suggesting that Osayi-Samuel’s girlfriend, who is a senior bank manager in London, had influenced his indecision about extending his stay in Turkey. The player had also openly shared his ambition to return to England to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

“I think everyone knows that my ambition is to play English football, to play in the [English] Premier League. No disrespect to Fenerbahçe, they’ve done so much for me here in Turkey, but my ambition is to play in the Premier League,” he earlier told Soccernet.ng.

Despite these factors, Fenerbahçe have made a bold move to keep the Super Eagles defender at the club amid persistent transfer speculation.

Osayi-Samuel’s contract extension is a significant boost for José Mourinho and the Yellow Canaries as they pursue Super Lig and Europa League success this season.
